Dear Grandma Dae,<\/p>\n
This Saturday marks three years since you left this earth.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t stopped missing you, and sometimes the pain of your physical absence still goes deep.\u00a0 In those moments when I just want to feel you near, I wrap up in an afghan you made for me.\u00a0 Or, when everyone is out of the house, I watch the video slideshow that we played at your memorial service.<\/p>\n
Remember when you held my hand as I labored to have Shawn?\u00a0 Fifteen years later, I was holding yours as you took your last breath.\u00a0 I treasure that I was there, and I wouldn\u2019t trade that experience for anything.\u00a0 But I gotta tell you, Grandma\u2014it was not easy.\u00a0 I know we told you that we would all be okay without you.\u00a0 And, I guess we are, sort of.<\/p>\n
When I see little old white-haired ladies, I sometimes get tears in my eyes for a bit.\u00a0 Seeing them brings back such good memories!\u00a0 Memories of taking you shopping and going to lunch together, of watching Rockies\u2019 and Nuggets\u2019 games with you. \u00a0Of just being with you.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n
We prayed over the phone one day and you asked Jesus to forgive your sins and to be your Savior.\u00a0 So, I know you\u2019re with Him now, and I will see you again.\u00a0 That\u2019s my hope and makes the missing you not quite so painful.<\/p>\n
A few days before you died you told me, \u201cPastor came by today and said that I\u2019m almost there.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cReally?\u00a0 Was Pastor Paul here today?\u201d\u00a0 (He came to see you every few days.)\u00a0 But, you looked a little confused and said, \u201cHmmm.\u201d\u00a0 Then with all the confidence in the world you again said, \u201cYep.\u00a0 He said I\u2019m almost there.\u201d\u00a0 When I talked to Pastor Paul that evening, he told me that no, he wasn\u2019t able to stop by to see you that day.\u00a0 Grandma, was it Jesus you saw and talked with?\u00a0 I think so.<\/p>\n
I feel you with me, I really do.\u00a0 But, there are times when I would give anything to have you right here just for one more day.\u00a0 I know everyone says that, and I really am grateful for all the time I did have with you.\u00a0 God allowed me, all of us, to have you for many years.\u00a0 But, loving and being close to someone comes at a cost.\u00a0 We are left with the pain of carrying on without that person.\u00a0 I gotta tell you\u2014as you know\u2014it isn\u2019t always easy to do that.<\/p>\n
As I said three years ago, this is not good-bye, Grandma.\u00a0 It is only see you later.\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait to see you again.<\/p>\n
